Debbie

Mike writing:
Dear Friends,
This is to let you know that Debbie died at St John’s Hospice on Wed 13 April at around 5.50pm. She had not been conscious for a couple of days, and spent the day sleeping, calm and in no discomfort or pain. I was there with Jono, Ellie and Amy when the end came, and it was very peaceful. The Hospice was where Debbie wanted to be for this stage of her illness, and we are glad that was able to be the case. We are very grateful to all the staff who have made her stay so comfortable, and who have been so hospitable to us.
It’s obviously too early to have made any arrangements for the funeral, so we will post something when we are able to tell you more.
In the meantime, thank you for accompanying us on this journey.

  1. Mike, I knew Debbie at university, at Brasenose, as she was a friend in chapel and in the Christian community there, but haven't seen her since we left. Through a mutual friend I heard she had become a vicar and I thought "How perfect." She was the most gentle person, someone I recall turning too very often to talk things through, just to hear that quiet voice and her gently probing questions to help me figure things out. I had no knowledge of her illness and have just been moved to tears having found this blog. Know that you and the children are in my prayers. Sarah Lynch

  3. Dear Mike,
Though expected, it is such sad news to know that Debbie is gone. Her peaceful passing was fitting, as she brought such a sense of peace and tolerance into the college Common Room (Brasenose HCR) where we experienced such friendship. Though unable to attend her funeral, we have sent a donation via the funeral directors, and send our loving thoughts to you, Jono and Ellie. Louise and Gareth (Oxford)
